The society was formed in August 1950 and called The North Cheshire Canine Club.
By 1951 the name had changed to Altrincham and District Alsation Training Society.
In spite of the name, other breeds of dogs were accepted, although originally they stipulated the dogs had to be 'pedigree' and of 'working' type.
In 1952 the society became affiliated to the Kennel Club, and was then able to run Kennel Club events in the area.
The main interest was to train for 'obedience'.
However there were influential trainers and members who were interested in 'working trials', and so some training was given for this.
In 1967 the name was changed to the present one, The Altrincham and District Dog Training Society.
In 1990 the society applied successfully to be a registered charity.
It now takes any breed of dog. The emphasis is on 'pet-dog' training with help and direction in specialist training as required.
